John Salisbury, yoga guru and author, began exploring the art of yoga after reading Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananada. Taught by his stepfather, Salisbury began to practice Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga in 1995. Once devoted to the art he began teaching yoga, though at the time his true passion lay in theatre, which he was studying to receive a B.A in at Arizona State University.
Though his practice is in Ashtanga yoga, Salisbury enjoys teaching Vinyasa yoga or Power yoga. Power yoga allows for the accompany of music which moves with the body in dynamic flow stimulating creativity of the body.
Having traveled to India as part of his study in Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, Salisbury has studied with both old world and new world tradition, gaining inspiration from both. Knowing yoga requires self discipline and a great deal of willpower, he embraces the traditions of both the old and new world within his teachings.
John Salisbury currently lives in Scottsdale, Arizona. He has been teaching yoga since 2000 and has taught at the Wellness & Yoga Festival, EMPOWER! Fusion master classes, assisted teachers at the Yoga Journal Conference, and teaches many independent class workshops across the nation.
